Small business owners, office managers and home users alike have often made the mistake of getting a fancy, expensive printer/copier/fax/scanner or high-end colorlaserjet for everyday use. Printing web pages, movie ticket confirmations and spreadsheets in rich color can hit your bottom line like a freight train, leaving you wondering where all your money's gone.
The logic behind an all-in-one printer seems solid when you're buying one: "I'd rather be able to fax, scan and copy and not need it; than need to fax, scan and copy and not have it." That may be true for you, the small biz owner, but your employees will likely put every ink and toner-consuming task to the test, and who has time to monitor everyone's printing and copying habits?
Finally, who needs a fax machine anymore, when you can send and receive hundreds of faxes for under ten dollars a month with an internet faxing service like MyFax?
So why not cut down on your monthly toner (or ink) bill with a workhorse black and white business laser printer? The HP LaserJet 2055dn fits the bill perfectly.
The 2055dn can connect to either your USB slot on a computer, or be shared over a network via its Fast Ethernet 10/100/1000 LAN connection. We found it was equally responsive connected either way. If you'd rather do away with most cabling hassles, you can connect it toHP's Jetdirect ew 2400 Wireless Print Server. It's also supported on Windows 2000, XP and Vista; If your office or studio runs Macs, it's supported fromMacOS 10.3 and newer.
The 2055dn not only prints spreadsheets and other documents quickly, but turns out quality black and white photo prints if you need it -- just keep that last part to yourself to save your toner. HP says it can print up to 35 pages per minute, and at medium quality we repeatedly got 30 pages in a minute's time -- half of which were full pagegrayscale photos! Printing at the 1200 x1200 Prores dpi , we got around four pages per minute, but didn't notice a marked difference in quality when compared to the medium quality at 600 x 600dpi. Impressive performance, and it's flexible, too.
Out of the box, the 2055dn has two trays that can print just about any paper size and type, including Letter, Legal, Statement, Executive, Envelopes and Index Cards. Tray 1 is a feed tray that handles the more oddly-dimensioned paper types, and tray 2 holds up to 250 sheets of the standard paper types. Add a third tray and the 2055dn holds up to 800 sheets. There's no need to buy separate accessories for duplex printing -- the 2055dn does two-sided printing right out of the box.
Last but not least, the 2055dn has a light footprint at 14.4 x 14.5 x 10.6 inches, and doesn't make a room feel like a sauna even after an hour of continuous printing. Bottom line: the HPLaserJet 2055dn Small Business Printer is well-suited for everyday office use, and even emergency black & white photo printing if need be.
