Dell Introduces Printer Without Wires and Ink

Dell has begun shipping a wireless and inkless mobile printer, the Dell Wasabi PZ310 photo printer, based on Zink's inkless technology. It prints 2 x 3-inch images that you can peel off the back and stick anywhere you like (read: heyday for junior high girls and their boyfriends' lockers).

The cool part is that the printer doesn't use ink. Zero Ink debuted their products years ago, creating images with paper that has embedded dye crystals that are heat sensitive. The printer can produce an image in about 55 seconds. Some say that it saves money because you don't have to keep buying ink to print photos. However, I think that having to buy the special paper balances out the money saved on buying ink. The technology is cool enough in itself and so hopefully Dell won't try to market it as a money saver.

While Zink's technology has been around for a while, this is the first time a major manufacturer has picked it up. The printer can make photos wirelessly with Bluetooth or from a camera with a USB (although if your camera is equipped with Bluetooth I imagine that you won't have to use the archaic connectors).

The printer is available from Dell for about $100. Check out our review of other photo only printers to see how it rates, or read these other (free) blog posts:
