The Canon Pixma MG8220 is equipped with six ink cartridges and is designed to provide appealing photo printing and scanning. This all-in-one inkjet printer gives you wireless, Ethernet and USB connectivity choices that afford you the convenience of using your printer directly in your home office or small business or from a distance.
It also presents a somewhat unusual control arrangement that permits the top of the printer to perform as a giant touch panel with only the buttons you need lit up. This feature is intended to make handling the controls easy and perhaps it might be ideal for a number of people. However, if you prefer that to the standard control panel, you might not find this characteristic convenient at all.
This device does lack an auto document feeder since its controls are on the top, which could be problematic for individuals who need that capability for their office work.
You get some good printing speeds with this device: 12.5 pages per minute for black and white prints and 9.2 pages per minute for color. You get healthy resolution of 600 x 600 dpi (dots per inch) for black and white prints and 9600 x 2400 dpi for color prints. With this all-in-one printer, you can produce borderless prints that extend whatever it is you are printing from one edge of the page to the other.
You also can print on both sides of a sheet of paper and create large copies. You also get the benefit of being able to print CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays. In addition, you can capture photos from slides and film.
Copy speeds are brisk as well, clocking in at 12.5 copies per minute for black and white sheets and 14 copies per minute for color copies. The paper tray holds a healthy 300 pages of plain paper, which means you will be spared from having to keep replacing the paper often.
The good print speeds and quality photo printing capabilities make this a useful office tool for businesses or homes. However, an auto document feeder would make this one of the best all-in-one printers.
You get good color resolution and fairly quick printing speeds.
You might not like having the top of the printer serve as its control panel.
The Canon Pixma MG prints fast and in high resolution. However, the missing automatic document feeder might inconvenience business users.
